The outlaw Elmer McCurdy fled the train robbery and decided to hide in a hayloft at a friend’s ranch.

But a sheriff’s posse tracked him down using bloodhounds a few days later and on the dawn of the October 7 there was a short gun fight in which Elmer was killed.
